MTCC-Asia and Myanmar Branch Office officially Launched Third E-learning Course


On 19th September 2019, MTCC-Asia which is funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Maritime Organization officially launched its third Online Training Course with Myanmar Branch Office. The opening ceremony was held simultaneously at the Shanghai headquarters through live internet connection. Jin Yongxin, Chairman of MTCC-Asia, Ruan Wei, Head of MTCC-Asia, Myat Lwin, President of Myanmar Maritime University attended the ceremony, together with 20 trainees from Myanmar shipping industry. The opening ceremony was mediated by Mr. Ruan Wei.

Prof. Jin Yongxing, pointed out in his welcome speech that Shanghai Maritime University and Myanmar Maritime University have a long friendship and the two sides have maintained long-term cooperative relations in faculty and student exchange programs. This online course aims to enhance the maritime capacity building in Myanmar and to improve Myanmar’s implementation of IMO conventions, especially the conventions related to the prevention of environmental pollution from ships. MTCC-Asia Myanmar Branch Office should play a key role in the implementation and management of this training and provide organizational and service supports for the sub-regional trainees.

Mr. Myat Lwin, President of Myanmar Maritime University, expressed his gratitude to MTCC-Asia for delegating MTCC-Asia Myanmar Branch Office to operate the customized online training course for Myanmar maritime and shipping industry. He said as the host of the MTCC-Asia Myanmar branch office, Myanmar Maritime University will spare no efforts to ensure the success of this high-level online training course.

Mr. Ruan Wei expressed his thanks to the Myanmar Branch Office for their efforts in the recruitment of trainees and the organization of the course in the past months. He expected that through the joint efforts of MTCC-Asia and Myanmar Branch, this training course could be developed into an example project. He also expressed sincere hope that the two sides could continue their close cooperation in the subsequent education and research activities.

Mr. Chen Yuli gave a detailed introduction on the design of the course and also briefed the two pilot projects carried out by MTCC-Asia. At present, the two pilot projects have entered the final phase of work, the research results and the guidelines developed will be distributed to the trainees during the course. Finally, he wished the trainees a pleasant time during their study.
