Shanghai Mayor meets IMO SG

Mr. Ying Yong, Mayor of Shanghai meets Mr. Kitack Lim, the IMO Secretary-General  on May 15, 2017 and expresses sincere congratulations on the launch event of MTCC-Asia and the International Maritime Forum in Shanghai Maritime University.

In the interview, Mayor Ying Yong says that it is the Vision of Shanghai to build it into an international economic financial trade and shipping center by 2020, a center with core function of innovation by 2030 and a world city of Excellence. Currently, Shanghai international shipping center progressed smoothly. The container throughput of Shanghai port ranked the 1st in the world for several years. The number of passengers by air has taken the league of cities of 100 million passengers. Maritime service system is relatively systematic. Shanghai is also committed to green development and green shipping whilst the clustering of shipping elements. The establishment of MTCC-Asia in Shanghai under IMO will further improve the building of Shanghai international shipping center and the maritime service system. Shanghai will support the building of MTCC-Asia to full-play its roles and strengthen exchange and cooperation with IMO. He wishes that more International organizations like IMO will headquarter their functional institutions in Shanghai for the sake of cooperation and win-win.

Kitack Lim says that Shanghai has already in the international shipping center, considering the hardware and software whatsoever, and shows a promising development. IMO is willing for more exchange and cooperation with Shanghai.
