WMU president visits MTCC-Asia

Prof. Jin Yongxing, Director of the MTCC-Asia and the Party general secretary of SMU (Shanghai Maritime Unviersity) meets Ms. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, President of the WMU (World Maritime University), and Shuo Ma, vice President of the WMU, located in Malmo, Sweden on August 28, 2017.

WMU President visited the city office of MTCC-Asia, located at Lu jiazui of Shanghai. Looking at the seminar room, the photo gallery, the meeting room, she did not hesitate to pour out her appreciations for the vision and solid work carried out by the MTCC-Asia. She said to Director Jin,” the vision of the MTCC-Asia is marvelous, and the team behind the MTCC-Asia is sure to bring out more splendid achievements.”

Since the majority of the MTCC-Asia had ever studied in WMU, Ms. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry was very delighted to see so many WMU graduates make their contributions to the shipping industry, especially the ship energy efficiency mitigation and fuel consumption data collection.

Zhou Feng, the ever WMU graduate, introduced the general situation of MTCC-Asia and the technical solution to ship fuel consumption data collection. MTCC-Asia would use the real-time data collected from the target ship as required to monitor the ship fuel consumption, and provide software to dynamically adjust the ship performance, achieving the optimal GHG reduction.

Director Jin and Ruan Wei, Head of the MTCC-Asia answered the technical roadmap to ship energy efficiency. As it was hard to obtain the real time data concerning the ship fuel consumption, using target ships to transmit data would be a workable method comparing with the other costly approach. China COSCO Shipping Group has agreed to install some monitor sensor on board.

Ms. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry said the amazing work by MTCC-Asia would lead the shipping industry to a greener ocean, exclaiming that “MTCC-Asia has done what the WMU wants to do for years, and it has done a fabulous job!” Cooperation between WMU and MTCC-Asia would be certain to bring win-win to both sides.
